Why You Should Participate in Blogs, Forums and Social Communities Networks?

Posted on 16 February 2009

Participation in blogs by commenting, in forums by sharing your thoughts and in social communities networks by bookmarking, sharing and publishing could be extremely useful for your recognition among search engines. It’s a very important step you could take to increase search engine ranking while you create a web awareness about your online presence, products, services, etc.

What If You’re Not a Blogger or Something Like That?

Some might say, ” Well, you know, I’m not that kind of a person!”, “I’m not blogging. I’m representing a corporation!”, “We’re an old-time well-established internet business!” and so on. I would tell you no matter what you do online or where you’d like to head on, it’s the interaction age and you could have successful online business only if you show your audience that you exist, you’re there for them, you listen to them and you care about them. When I say you, I mean your business. If you represent a huge company, of course you can hire some people to do this for you. Social media marketing is an important part of all businesses now.

The bottom line is you need to have an online business though which you are heard and your audience is hears too. This cannot be done without participating in blogs, forums and social communities networks either at your web address or at other addresses.

You’ve definitely heard the term business blogging. What does it tell you?

  • You’d like to have an online business? You need a blog even if you build a website. It’s because you have to let your prospects or customers say what they think and what they expect.
  • You’ve got an online business without a blog? Again you need a blog as it gives you an opportunity to be better heard and listen to what others have to say.

You’ve definitely seen forums in some websites. What do you think they’re good for?

  • You’ve got to take care of your customers? Forums can be your customer care service online. You let people say what they’ve got to say about various aspects of your products or services. This saves your energy as those points are published and recorded as FAQ for the next customers.
  • You’ve got a customer service care? You should have a forum to take it online too as it’s time saving and quicker for many to contact you that way.

You’ve definitely visited social communities networks. Why do you think they’re so popular?

  • Social media are being used even by large companies. Small companies surly take a lot of advantage from participating in such networks. The result will be building up your reputation and web awareness about yourself.
  • Social media can drive traffic to your online business. When you attract like-minded people who are looking for the same thing, you get them together and provide for them so that you build up a community of fans for your business.

How Does It Relate to Search Engine Ranking?

First of all, I must say that wherever new content is being produced over and over again, search engines will come by over and over again to get what they are looking for: new content or changes to index. Therefore, here we have two different scenarios for all the websites.

1) You have a blog or forum as your site or inside your site

If you have a blog or forum in your site and engage your audience by participating, sharing ideas and commenting, more and more fresh content is being added to your site. Good for you! Your indexation increases. You get higher organic SEO ranking and improve search engine ranking as well.

2) You participate in blogs, forums and social communities networks outside your site

When you take part in social media of any type outside your website, you leave traces. Such traces could be your profile page with a link in it, your name linked to your site, a link that you introduce and bookmark over there, etc. All this helps you with your link building and link popularity in addition to the other benefits mentioned before. It can also trigger some social media marketing too if some people get interested by your posts, comments, etc and reply to it and you decide to start a group over there.

How Does It Help Search Engine Ranking?

Many complain about the “nofollow” links produced in such social media. Some blogs don’t let you use your keywords in the name you choose for yourself. Some will only link your name, etc to the profile page you have with them. There could be lots of such unsatisfactory cases, but I tell you there’s a lot of benefits for your link popularity and consequently for your search engine ranking.

On a recent comparison, I’ve discovered why some competitors are doing much better online, I’ve realized that they’ve got lots of such so-called valueless links from blogs, forums and social media sites. They simply go to those sites and leave comments, share their experiences. Sometimes, they’re not doing this in related websites at all! Yet, it’s returned great results for them. It simply gains them more backlinks.
